Khao Yai National Park (Thai เขาใหญ่) is a national park in Thailand. It lies largely in Nakhon Ratchasima Province (Khorat), but also includes parts of Saraburi, Prachinburi and Nakhon Nayok provinces. It was the country's first national park, established on September 18, 1962. A major role in its establishment was done by Boonsong Lekakul, one of the 20th century's most famous conservationists in Thailand.
The park is the second largest in Thailand. It covers an area of 2,168 square kilometers, including evergreen forests and grasslands. Its altitude mostly ranges from 400 to 1000 m above sea level. There are 3,000 species of plants, 320 species of birds and 67 species of mammals, including Asiatic black bears, Asian elephants, gaur, tigers, gibbons, Indian sambar deer, Indian muntjac, dholes, and wild pigs. Its waterfalls include the 80 metre Heo Narok, and Haeo Suwat made famous from the film The Beach. Namtok Sarika is popular with the Thais.
Recent wildlife studies show that animal ranges, particularly the few resident tigers, are impacted by human activity near the center of the park. This study has not impacted the government's call for private lodging concessions within the park itself.
The park is often visited by travellers from Isan, Bangkok and beyond, for whom there are over 50km of hiking trails.
In 1984 the park was made an ASEAN Heritage Park, and on July 14 2005 the park together with other parks in the Dong Phaya Yen mountains was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name Dong Phaya Yen–Khao Yai Forest Complex. Veitnam is the easternmost country on the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by China to the north, Laos to the northwest, Cambodia to the southwest, and the South China Sea to the east. With a population of over 85 million, Vietnam is the 13th most populous country in the world.

Vietnam was under Chinese control for a thousand years before becoming a nation-state in the 10th century. Bang Pa-In Royal Palace (Thai: พระราชวังบางปะอิน), also known as the Summer Palace, is a palace complex formerly used by the Thai kings as a summer dwelling. The palace is located on the Chao Phraya River bank in Bang Pa-In district, Ayutthaya Province

King Prasat Thong originally constructed the complex in 1632, and though it lay empty and overgrown throughout the late 18th and early 19th century, King Mongkut began to restore the site in the mid-1800s. Most of the present buildings were constructed between 1872 and 1889 by King Chulalongkorn.

The facilities include vast gardens and landscaping, Wehart Chamrunt (Heavenly Light), a Chinese-style royal palace and throne room; the Warophat Phiman (Excellent and Shining Heavenly Abode), a royal residence; Ho Withun Thasana (Sages' Lookout), a brightly-painted lookout tower; and the Aisawan Thiphya-Art (Divine Seat of Personal Freedom), a pavilion constructed in the middle of a pond.

The palace remains largely open to visitors, as King Bhumibol Adulyadej and his family use it only rarely for banquets and special occasions.

Solved Ubuntu DNS always resolve to 1.0.0.0

There is some low level incompatibility between the Ubuntu dns requests and specific models of router. (I've heard this happens on a few other distros as well, so it's not Ubuntu specific)
Some models of router are absolutely fine, and some models resolve to 1.0.0.0 just about all the time.

Solved by...

Enable OpenDNS: Unix/Linux Ubuntu

1. Open a terminal window and type the following.
$ sudo network-admin
Note: Root access is required for this step.

2. Change to the DNS tab and enter the following two addresses in the top of the first field labeled DNS Servers.
208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220
To avoid having your settings get revoked after reboots, or after periods of inactivity, do this:
$ sudo cp /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf.auto
$ sudo gedit /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
# append the following line to the document
prepend domain-name-servers 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220;
# save and exit
$ sudo ifdown eth0 && sudo ifup eth0

You may be required to change eth0 to your own network device's name if it uses a non-standard name.

Hide Removable Drive Icons from Your Ubuntu Desktop

I prefer a clean desktop with no icons cluttering it up, but by default Ubuntu adds icons to the desktop for every single removable drive that you attach to your system.

Having recently transitioned to using Ubuntu full-time at home (instead of just part-time), this was one of the first things I wanted to disable. Sadly there's no option in the default configuration screens, so we'll have to use the "registry editor" for Ubuntu, called gconf-editor.

Just type in gconf-editor into the Alt+F2 run dialog to open the app.

Now browse down to the following key:

apps \ nautilus \ desktop

You should see a key in the right-hand pane called volumes_visible. Remove the checkbox from it, and the icons will instantly disappear from the desktop. Remember that you can always access the drives from the "Computer" icon, or easily in the file browser.

I'm much happier now with my beautiful desktop.

Display configuration

Because a KDE application will appear very large/small on GNOME desktops. You can use either the kcontrol or the qt3-qtconfig package to configure the appearance and other KDE/QT applications. Of these two, the QT Configurator (qt3-qtconfig) has far fewer dependencies than kcontrol and may therefore be more convenient for people who mostly use non-KDE software. See also QtGnome for how to make Qt applications look more like Gnome.

A quick fix, without installing any configuration packages at all, is to make a file qtrc in your $HOME/.qt directory, and put these two lines in it:

```
You can start QT Configurator with the "qtconfig" command. On the "Fonts" tab, choosing Font Family Sans Serif and Point Size 10 will give something that resembles Ubuntu's GNOME desktop.
If you install the kcontrol package, you may run it by entering kcontrol into the Applications/Run Application... prompt. Expand the Appearance & Themes menu and select Fonts. Press Adjust All Fonts and select Size. Lower this value to your preference (size 10 or 11 is usually satisfactory). Press OK and Apply and exit the KDE Control Center.

ลองทำฟอนต์ทดแทน ๑ - Angsima

ช่วงนี้กำลังทดลองเอา OpenOffice บนลินุกซ์ มาใช้แทน Microsoft Office บนวินโดวส์ ได้ผลดีพอควร แต่มาติดปัญหาสำคัญคือฟอนต์ในเอกสารเก่าจำนวนมาก เป็นฟอนต์บนวินโดวส์ คือ Angsana New และ Browallia New
ถ้าจะแก้ ก็ต้องแก้กันเป็นจำนวนมาก จึงคิดว่าถ้าเราทำฟอนต์ใหม่ทดแทน Angsana ให้สามารถเปิดเอกสารเก่าที่เป็นฟอนต์ Angsana โดยไม่เสียรูปแบบ น่าจะเป็นทางออกที่ดีกว่า
จึงทดลองนำฟอนต์นรบุตรมาแปลงขนาดความกว้างตัวอักษรให้เท่ากับ Angsana ตั้งชื่อว่า Angsima (อังสิมา) แปลว่าอะไรก็ไม่รู้ แต่ตั้งชื่อให้คล้าย เพื่อให้เวลาเราเลือกฟอนต์ รายชื่อจะได้อยู่ใกล้ ๆ กัน
ทดลองรุ่นแรก แบบหยาบ ๆ ได้ผลคือ

ภาษาไทยได้แล้ว แต่ภาษาอังกฤษยังไม่ได้
( ทำส่วนโค้งเป็นแบบ quadratic เพราะเริ่มถนัดแล้ว และสามารถแปลงเป็น cubic ได้โดยไม่สูญเสียตำแหน่ง )

ดาวน์โหลดได้ดังนี้

ใช้ฐานจากฟอนต์ Garuda ยกเว้นตัวหนาที่เป็นภาษาอังกฤษ ตัว Garuda-Bold ยังไม่หนาเท่า Browallia ผมจึงเอามาจากตัวหนา sans ของ Freefont แทน

มีข้อสังเกตุคือ ตัว Browallia กับ Garuda เมื่อปรับสัดส่วนแล้ว มีลายเส้นที่แทบจะนาบกันสนิท

เที่ยวนี้ขี้เกียจทำ Screenshot เพราะตัวเหมือนกันเป๊ะ ๆ ดาวน์โหลดเลยดีกว่า

ชื่อฟอนต์ไม่มีคำแปล เพราะพยายามให้อักขระสามตัวแรกเหมือนกัน เพื่อให้เลือกฟอนต์ได้ง่าย จำง่าย

ใช้ฐานจากฟอนต์ Loma แต่ยากหน่อยตรงที่ฐานของฟอนต์โลมาคือ FreeSerif ไม่มีขนาดความหนาแบบ Light เลยต้องเสียเวลาสร้างตัวภาษาอังกฤษแบบ Light ด้วย และใช้ขนาดปกติ (Book) ของ FreeSerif เป็น Bold ของ Corada แทน
ดังนั้นสำหรับเที่ยวนี้ ในส่วนของอักขระภาษาอังกฤษจึงไม่ค่อยเรียบร้อยเท่าที่ควร เพราะสร้างขึ้นเอง

พยายามให้หน้าตาฟอนต์ออกมาอยู่ระหว่างฟอนต์คอร์เดีย และสุดยอดฟอนต์แห่งยุค คือ ดีบีฟองน้ำ

ดาวน์โหลดได้ดังนี้

สรุปงานทำฟอนต์ทดแทนฟอนต์ของวินโดวส์ทั้งสามตัว คือ

สร้างด้วยการปรับความกว้างของฟอนต์แต่ละอักขระ ให้เท่ากับฟอนต์วินโดวส์ และลบ kerning ของฟอนต์ต้นแบบออกให้หมด ส่วนความสูงของฟอนต์ ไม่ได้ปรับความสูงของสระให้เท่าของวินโดวส์ แต่ใช้วิธีสร้างอักขระพิเศษเพิ่มมาตัวนึง ให้จุดสูงสุดของอักขระเท่ากับไม้โทสูงของวินโดวส์ (ซึ่งสูงที่สุด) และให้จุดต่ำสุดของอักขระนี้ ให้เท่ากับสระอูที่ต่ำที่สุดของวินโดวส์
รวมทั้งสร้างไฟล์คอนฟิกให้ฟอนต์ ให้แทนชื่อฟอนต์จากวินโดวส์ตามรายละเอียดข้างบน ไฟล์นี้ตั้งชื่อว่า 65-2-thaifont-abc.conf ซึ่งจะต้องนำไปใส่ไว้ที่ไดเรกทอรี่ /etc/fonts/conf.d

เมื่อทำครบทุกอย่างแล้ว เราก็จะสามารถเปิดไฟล์ตระกูลออฟฟิศจากวินโดวส์ โดยไม่เสียรูปแบบ

ตั้งใจให้ออกมาเป็นลูกผสมของ Norasi กับ Angsana
ยังไม่ค่อยสวยเหมือนที่มืออาชีพเขาทำกัน ฮิ้นต้งฮิ้นติ้งไม่รู้เรื่องเลย เอาแค่พอใช้งานได้ตามสไตล์

ทำไปก็งงไป ทำให้ทราบว่างานออกแบบฟอนต์นี่ยากจริง ๆ ผมเองยังมือไม่ถึง จึงอ่านบุคลิกของฟอนต์ Gentium ไม่ออก เลยทำแค่ฟอนต์ขนาด book แค่ตัวเดียว

สามารถทำเป็นฟอนต์สำหรับหน้าจอก็ได้ หรือจะออกเป็นงานพิมพ์ก็ได้
หากต้องการให้ดูทางหน้าจอภาพได้ง่ายขึ้น เพียงแค่ลดขนาดสระบน-ล่าง และวรรณยุกต์ ลงไปเป็นสัก 90% ก็จะดูทางจอภาพได้ง่ายขี้นแล้วครับ

คราวก่อนทำฟอนต์โลมาบุตร ดูแล้วยังรู้สึกว่าอ่านยาก (ไม่รู้ว่าเป็นที่ hinting หรือเปล่า)
คราวนี้ลองเอาอีกฟอนต์นึงคือฟอนต์ครุฑ (Garuda) มาปรับให้เหมาะกับการแสดงผลบนจอคอมพิวเตอร์
โดยการลดขนาดสระและวรรณยุกต์ และปรับความกว้างของบรรทัดให้แคบเข้า
เอาไว้เป็นตัวเผื่อเลือกสำหรับการแสดงผลของฟอนต์ sans-serif

เกร็ดเกี่ยวกับโปรแกรม FontForge

โปรแกรม FontForge เป็นโปรแกรมที่ใช้ออกแบบฟอนต์ของลินุกซ์ที่ได้รับความนิยม มีความสามารถสูง แต่มีข้อเสียคือ ทำ AutoHint ได้แย่มาก เพราะโปรแกรมจะกันเหนียวด้วยการกำหนดแถบการ Hint ไว้กว้างเกินไป

การกำหนดแถบการ Hint ไว้กว้าง ทำให้เวลาแสดงฟอนต์ทางจอภาพ อักษร ก ไก่ จะดูเตี้ยกว่าอักษร ข ไข่ ซึ่งไม่ถูก AutoHint ไว้กว้างแบบนั้น

ถ้าจะทำให้ได้ผลการ Hint ที่ดี แบบที่เรา ๆ ท่าน ๆ สามารถทำได้เอง โดยไม่ต้องใช้ฝีมือระดับเทพ ก็คือการ Hint เองด้วยมือ
ซึ่งทำได้โดยการกำหนดสองจุดคู่ที่จะทำการ Hint แล้วสั่ง Add HHint หรือ Add VHint ตามลักษณะของส่วนโค้งตัวอักษรนั้น ๆ

วิธีนี้ทำให้ได้ตัวอักษรที่ดูสูงเท่ากัน แต่ปัญหาคือโปรแกรม FontForge ไม่ทำปุ่มลัดสำหรับคำสั่ง Add HHint และ Add VHint ไว้ด้วย
งานที่จะต้องมานั่งเลือกจุดคู่แล้วไล่คลิกเมนูสั่งงาน นับว่าเปลืองเวลาเกินไป
แต่ยังโชคดีที่โปรแกรมถูกออกแบบให้สามารถกำหนดปุ่มลัดได้เอง เพียงแต่ต้องออกแรงหน่อยนึงด้วยการคอมไพล์แพกเกจเอง
เราจะกำหนดปุ่มลัดเอง ทำให้การทำงานเร็วขึ้นมาก

เริ่มด้วยการติดตั้งแพกเกจที่จำเป็นในการคอมไพล์ก่อน
$ sudo aptitude install libfreetype6-dev
(แพกเกจอื่น ๆ ไม่แน่ใจครับ อาจตรวจดูจากข้อผิดพลาดตอนสั่ง ./configure ก็ได้)

ไปเอาซอร์สมาก่อนคือไฟล์ fontforge_full-20070312.tar.bz2

เมื่อได้ไฟล์มาแล้วก็แตกไฟล์ออกก่อน
$ tar xfj fontforge_full-20070312.tar.bz2

คอมไพล์และติดตั้ง
$ cd fontforge-20070312
$ ./configure
$ make
$ sudo make install

ต่อไปเป็นการสร้างไฟล์สำหรับกำหนดปุ่มลัด
ทำตามคู่มือ ในการนำเอาไฟล์ FontForge-MenuShortCuts.pot ออกมา

เสร็จเรียบร้อยแล้ว สั่งรันโปรแกรมด้วยคำสั่ง
$ /usr/local/bin/fontforge -dontopenxdevices [ชื่อไฟล์ฟอนต์]

ผลที่ได้จากการทำ Hint ด้วยมือ ดูดีขึ้นกว่าทำ AutoHint มากครับ

จากความรู้ที่ได้นี้ สามารถสรุปการ Hint ได้คือ

* ส่วนในของฟอนต์เลือกใช้ AutoHint เนื่องจากต้องการให้เกิดการเบลอภายในให้มากที่สุด
* ส่วนนอกของฟอนต์ คือ จุดสูงสุดและต่ำสุด ต้อง Hint เองด้วยมือ เพราะต้องการให้ส่วนสูงมีความคงที่

บอกว่า ปกติ FontForge ไม่ทำ Hint ของทรูไทป์โดยตรง แต่เป็นของ Type1
ถ้าจะพยายามทำ Hint ให้ทรูไทป์ วิธีทำคือให้เปลี่ยนส่วนโค้งเป็นแบบ Quadratic
Element -> Font Info ... -> เลือก Quadratic Splines

หลังจากนั้นจึงทำ AutoHint และ AutoInstruction แล้วจึงสั่งผลิตฟอนต์ทรูไทป์
เลือกช่วงฟอนต์ที่ต้องการ -> Hints -> AutoHint

ทดลองแล้วได้ผลดีพอควร
* 50-05-05 ลองทดสอบเรื่อง Truetype Hint ได้ความว่า
ถึงแม้ว่า Fontforge จะทำ Truetype Hint ได้แย่มากก็ตาม แต่เราก็อาจบังคับทำได้ โดยได้ผลดีพอควร โดยมีข้อแม้ว่า :-
1. จุดต่าง ๆ ที่กำกับส่วนโค้ง ต้องเลือกใช้จุดให้ตรงจริง ๆ ทั้งสามชนิดคือ จุดส่วนโค้ง จุดหัวมุม และจุดแทนเจนต์ ห้ามใช้จุดมั่วเด็ดขาด
2. ขนาดความหนาของส่วนตัวอักษร และจุดกำกับส่วนโค้งต่าง ๆ ควรอยู่ในตำแหน่งทางเรขาคณิตแบบง่าย ๆ
3. ส่วนโค้งที่ยาวมาก ต้องมีจุดแบ่งส่วนกำกับเสมอ
4. ถ่าหากจุดเริ่มต้นส่วนโค้ง ไม่อยู่ในตำแหน่งทางเรขาคณิตอย่างง่าย ควรใช้จุดแทนเจนต์กำกับอยู่ใกล้ ๆ (เช่น ปลายหางของตัว จ.จาน เป็นต้น)
5. เมื่อทดสอบแล้วพบว่ามีบางอักขระที่มีอาการฟุ้ง ให้ลองปรับลดหรือเพิ่มความกว้างของอักขระนั้นที่ละ 1 พิกเซล (ส่วนใหญ่ลองที่ขนาดฟอนต์ประมาณ 11 ปอยนต์)

ถ้าผ่านข้อกำหนดดังกล่าว การ Hint จะได้ผลดีที่สุด
* การทำงานกับส่วนโค้งที่เป็น Quadratic ไม่ยากจนเกินไปนัก หัดสักพักก็จะชิน เมื่อชินแล้วจะพบว่าการบังคับส่วนโค้ง ง่ายกว่าแบบ Cubic เสียอีก เพราะโดนบังคับด้วยจุดขนาบ
* อนาคตของ Truetype Hint น่าจะเสื่อมความนิยมลงไปเรื่อย ๆ ผกผันกับขนาดความละเอียดของจอภาพที่จะละเอียดขึ้นไปเรื่อย ๆ
* การทำให้การ Hint แบบ Adobe ได้ผลดี ควรปรับความหนาของตัวอักษรในแนวนอนให้มีความสม่ำเสมอ จึงจะได้ความสูงของตัวอักษรที่เท่า ๆ กัน ที่ขนาดตัวอักษรต่าง ๆ กัน

If you have to, you can save the file as a favicon.bmp or favicon.gif and then use IrfanView to convert it to an icon file favicon.ico.

Notes

Favicon doesn't work with older browsers (pre IE 5.0 or pre Netscape 7.0). In some browsers, like the new Apple Safari, for instance, the little icon stays in the visitors address bar as long as he or she is on your site.

However, everytime someone clears their cache your Favicon will disappear until visited again.

When you see favicon in your stats you can see how many people (using Favicon-compatible browsers) bookmarked your site. If you see favicon in your 404 errors stats, that means people are bookmarking your site and you don't have a favicon to go with it.

Nokia E-series sync with Evolution via Bluetooth in Ubuntu

The Nokia E-series consists of business-oriented smartphones, with emphasis on support for corporate e-mail. Currently Nokia e-series includes: E60, E61, E70, E50, E61i, E65, E90.

This is a howto (provided by Nailor) shows how to sync Nokia E-series phone (Symbian 9.1, Series60 3rd edition) with Gnome Evolution in Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10) and Feisty Fawn (7.04). This has been tested with Nokia E50. Information on how to sync Nokia E65 is available here. Kubuntu users may be interested in this.

1. Add required repositories:

Add following repositories to /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://opensync.gforge.punktart.de/repo/opensync-0.21/ feisty main
deb-src http://opensync.gforge.punktart.de/repo/opensync-0.21/ feisty main

To add key for the repo, do the following:
gpg --keyserver hkp://subkeys.pgp.net/ --recv-keys CB210090B029CB84
gpg --export CB210090B029CB84 | sudo apt-key add -

2. Install required software

sudo aptitude install libopensync-plugin-* libopensync0 opensyncutils msynctool mulstisync-qad bluez-passkey-gnome bluez-gnome

3. Configure msynctool
You can configure opensync via a graphical interface using multisync-qad (using similiar settings as below) or you can use command line. Guide below is for command line. Note, that the command line is reported not to work flawlessly on Feisty. You'll bet better results with GUI

Add a new group of preferred name (I'll be using nokia in this example):
msynctool --addgroup nokia

Add plugins to group. If you get errors in this face, they are propably due to missing plugins so check you've installed all required plugins.

msynctool --addmember nokia evo2-sync
msynctool --addmember nokia syncml-obex-client

Next is the 'trickiest' part. Installed plugins need to be configured. First, you have to find your phone’s MAC. Use hcitool to do that:
hcitool scan

It should return something like:
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx PhoneName

Now, configure the syncml-obex-client:
msynctool --configure nokia 2

Replace the context of the configuration (should be open in separate editor after running previous command) with the following XML:

Where bluetooth_address is your phone’s MAC address you just discovered.

After configuring the syncml-obex-client it’s time to configure evo2-sync. Open configuration file with command:
msynctool --configure nokia 1

And modify it to look like:

file:///home/USERNAME/.evolution/addressbook/local/system

Replace USERNAME with your username.

Edgy note: With the latest update from jahn repositories, this works with defaults. You can configure Calendar as calendar_db to syncml-obex-client setup to make calendar syncing work

4. Sync!
You should be good to go now, so you should try synchronizing:
msynctool --sync nokia

USB modem

On my system (kernel-2.6.18, udev-103) when I plug USB cable and selected PC Suite mode on my Nokia phone proper drivers are loaded and proper devices are created automatically. This is really how it should work! After phone is connected /dev/ttyACM0 device should be created.

If you have problems with it try to load drivers manually:

modprobe cdc_acm
modprobe usbserial vendor=0x0421 product=0x044d

now, wvdial configuration by:

sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
Editing `/etc/wvdial.conf'.

Found an USB modem on /dev/ttyACM0.
Modem configuration written to /etc/wvdial.conf.

wvdial modem setup is also very simple (DTAC specific):

sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf

System > Administration > Printing, Add Printer, Select from List

Everything went ok. I've already had all needed deps. If you are not that lucky and something says 'failed dependencies' try fixing it with apt-get install or apt-get -f install.
After that I suggest creating symlinks:

$sudo ln -s libpng12.so.0 libpng.so.2
$sudo ln -s libtiff.so.4 libtiff.so.3
$sudo ln -s libxml2.so.2 libxml.so.1

Without these symlinks the printer will install succesfully but it won't print anything (and I also haven't found anything in cups error logs).

This step is optional but advised - change the .ppd file to get other resolutions (300x300, 1200x1200).
I modified file /usr/share/cups/model/canonpixmaip1500.ppd
(don't forget to backup before changing!)

On 14.01.2005, I and my friends (Yo on theleft, Mu in the middle) walked + climbed up the flat hill called Phukradung. It is not easy to be on the top. We were really tired and exhaust. The way up the hill is about 5.5 km. We started to climb at 8.00am and then we arrived at the tourist center about 1.00pm. It is queit cold up there, about 14 degree in the midday. We lived three for three nights but first night we were walking for 30 km. After this trip my leg really need to relief for a few days 555. It was fun there anyway.
